Russia's Diana Shnaider overcame a second-set collapse to beat Canada's Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 on Sunday and claim the Pan Pacific Open title in Tokyo, Reuters reported.

Shnaider took the first set 6-4, then watched Fernandez fight back to take the second 7-5 and force a decider.

The Russian regrouped in the third, closing out the match 6-2 to lift the trophy in Tokyo.

The final was one of the weekend's standout tennis results, arriving alongside a busy slate of NHL, NBA and college football action across North America.

For Shnaider, the Tokyo title is a statement win — a three-set final, won the hard way, after letting a lead slip and finding it again.
