COURT REINSTATES 'SUNDAY TICKET' VERDICT AGAINST THE NFL — BUT ORDERS NEW TRIAL ON DAMAGES

A U.S. federal appeals court on Friday reinstated a jury's verdict against the National Football League in an antitrust lawsuit claiming it overcharged subscribers to its Sunday Ticket game telecasts for more than a decade, Reuters reported.

The court said the league can have a new trial on damages — meaning the question of liability is settled in the plaintiffs' favour for now, but the size of any payout remains to be fought over.

The Sunday Ticket case has long been one of the NFL's most expensive legal headaches, centred on how the league bundled out-of-market games and what fans were charged to watch them.

The ruling arrived on a busy sports weekend, alongside NHL and NBA action and a college football Saturday that reshaped the playoff race.

For subscribers, the practical effect is still to come: a new damages trial will determine what, if anything, the league ultimately pays for more than a decade of Sunday Ticket pricing.
