President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to a new low just days before voters head to the polls for the midterm elections, according to a poll released Friday, October 30.

The Emerson College survey put Trump's approval at 37%, down two points from his previous low of 39%, a mark he had recorded in the pollster's September, July, June and May surveys.

The same poll found Democrats leading Republicans by 10 percentage points on the generic congressional ballot, a sign of a potentially large Democratic night on Tuesday, November 3.

The survey, conducted October 24-26 among 1,000 likely voters, carried a margin of error of 3 percentage points, with about 5% of voters still undecided.

The Emerson result fits a broader polling slide: as of October 30, the RealClearPolitics average put Trump at 38.4% approval and 59.7% disapproval, while the New York Times average had him at 37% approval and 60% disapproval. The poll also pointed to trouble for Republicans in states they normally win comfortably, including a Washington Post poll showing Democrat Adam Hamilton leading Republican Senator Roger Marshall by nine points in Kansas, and a CNN/SSRS poll showing Democrat James Talarico leading Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton by six points in Texas.
