Taylor Swift Reveals the 20-Year Inside Joke She Still Shares With Her Best Friend
At a 'Toy Story 5' screening in New York, Swift told the audience she and Abigail Anderson Berard have bonded over 'Napoleon Dynamite' voices since high school, and never stopped.

Taylor Swift turned a 'Toy Story 5' screening into a story about friendship, telling a New York audience about the private joke she has shared with her best friend since high school.
Swift spoke at a November 1 screening and Q&A in New York City with co-director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton. She explained that the friendship between the film's characters Bonnie and Blaze reminded her of her own bond with Abigail Anderson Berard, whom she met as a freshman after moving to Nashville at age 14.
The two, she said, bonded over talking in 'Napoleon Dynamite' voices, impressions of the 2004 comedy's deadpan title character, and they have never stopped. Swift even demonstrated the voice on stage, telling the audience: 'We still do this, and it's something our husbands have to put up with.'
Anderson Berard was the inspiration behind Swift's 2008 song 'Fifteen,' and she later appeared in Swift's 2020 documentary 'Miss Americana.' Swift said finding a person who sees you for exactly who you are was what hit her hardest watching the film, describing it as finding someone who is 'the same genre as weird and silly as you are.'
The appearance also tied back to Swift's work on the film itself. She wrote and recorded the original song 'I Knew It, I Knew You' for 'Toy Story 5,' which has become her 15th No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, a first for Pixar, amid awards buzz around the song.
