Halloween weekend produced one of the closest box-office finishes of the year, with a documentary about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes edging out a DC superhero film for first place.

Studio estimates put A24's 'You Can See Everything' at $10.6 million in its third weekend, just ahead of Warner Bros.' 'Clayface' at $10.4 million in its second weekend, a gap of only about $200,000. Because the margin is so thin, the order could still shift when final figures arrive.

The split across the weekend tells the story of the holiday itself. 'Clayface' won Halloween night on Saturday, while the documentary held stronger on Sunday, reversing the order and closing the gap. 'Clayface' fell 57 percent from its opening weekend, while the documentary eased 43 percent.

The documentary, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, has now collected about $63.9 million domestically, while 'Clayface' stands at about $44.1 million at home against a reported $44 million production budget. Worldwide, 'Clayface' still leads, with roughly $83 million globally, since the documentary has only a limited international release so far.

Overall, it was one of the year's slowest weekends, with total ticket sales estimated in the mid-$50 million range as Halloween festivities pulled audiences away from theaters on Saturday. Even so, the domestic box office remains more than 17 percent ahead of last year, at nearly $8.5 billion.
