Syrian security forces arrested members of a cell linked to Hezbollah accused of planning to attack the Homs oil refinery in central Syria, state news agency SANA reported on Tuesday, November 3.

Syria's General Intelligence Service said the preemptive operation, carried out with Internal Security Forces, seized explosive devices prepared for the attack. It identified two arrested individuals only by the initials M S and B Sh.

Hezbollah denied the accusations, saying it has no presence on Syrian territory and is not involved in any activity undermining Syria's security and stability.

The Homs refinery is one of Syria's main oil-processing facilities and a key domestic fuel supplier; Syria's other refinery is at Baniyas.

Reuters noted that SANA did not say how many people were arrested in total or when the alleged plot was uncovered, so those details remain unconfirmed.
