MISTRAL OPENS THE WEIGHTS OF LARGE 4, ITS 1-TRILLION-PARAMETER FLAGSHIP
Mistral calls Large 4 'our flagship 1-trillion-parameter, natively multimodal model,' with weights on Hugging Face and self-hosting via vLLM or SGLang — but businesses offering it as a service need a separate commercial licence.

Mistral has opened the weights of Large 4, its new flagship model, capping a week in which the AI industry's biggest stories were mostly vendors describing their own products.
Mistral calls Large 4 'our flagship 1-trillion-parameter, natively multimodal model,' with weights on Hugging Face — the repository's initial release commit is dated October 29, 2026 — and self-hosting with vLLM or SGLang.
The licence catch: businesses that operate a Model-as-a-Service offering must obtain a separate commercial licence from Mistral, so 'open weights' does not mean free for every commercial use.
Large 4 arrived in the same week as OpenAI's cheaper GPT-6.1 Terra, a Cohere report on an odd Qwen sandbox incident, Oracle bringing its apps into ChatGPT, and Google's Gemini 4 Carbon.
As the week's reviewers noted, the catch running through all five stories is the same: prices and benchmarks come from the vendors themselves, and Mistral's performance claims have not been independently tested.
