Kimberly K. Robinson, 66, was taken into custody in Indian River County in connection with 29 felony counts of cruelty to animals, following the incident in the 2500 block of Southwest Warwick Street in Port St. Lucie, according to Port St. Lucie Police.

More than 100 cats and kittens were taken to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County from what officials described as a hoarding situation.

Police reported investigators saw extensive accumulations of animal feces and urine, an overwhelming ammonia odor, and numerous cats suffering from apparent untreated medical conditions.

The humane society had reported on October 16 that animal control removed the animals over three days that week.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, with additional charges possible as veterinary findings are reviewed.
