The clip, filmed from a car at a drive-thru window, shows a fast-food worker in a maroon Burger King shirt and cap, wearing a drive-thru headset, with her face painted solid black. She is holding cash and talking with the customers filming her, gesturing and responding as they challenge her about the face paint.

When the customers pressed her on it, the worker said she 'just wanted to be Black,' according to the caption on the original post. In the clip, a customer can be heard asking her: 'Why would you want to be black, do you know the struggles that we go through as black people?'

The video was posted to X on Saturday by user @rahsh33m with the caption: '"I just wanted to be black" like what ?????' At the time Orbit News captured it, the post had been viewed about 3.0 million times, with 34,500 likes and more than 2,300 reposts.

What has not been confirmed: the worker's name, the location of the restaurant, and whether Burger King has taken any action. None of those details appear in the original post, and Orbit News has not independently verified them. Some reposts have described the face paint as a Halloween costume, but the original post does not say that, so that detail also remains unconfirmed.

Blackface — darkening one's face to portray a Black person — has long been widely condemned as racist, a practice rooted in 19th-century minstrel shows that mocked Black people. That history is a large part of why clips like this one tend to spread so fast, and so angrily, when they surface online.
