ZELENSKY WELCOMES $2.1 BILLION PATRIOT DEAL — BUT WARNS THE MISSILES COULD TAKE YEARS
Ukraine's president welcomed U.S. approval of a potential sale of 500 Patriot interceptor missiles on Friday, while warning it may take 'a few years' for them to arrive.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed U.S. approval of a potential $2.1 billion sale of 500 Patriot interceptor missiles on Friday, but warned it may take 'a few years' for them to arrive.
Kyiv uses the defensive weapons to blunt Russia's ballistic missile strikes, but Ukraine's supply ran dry earlier this month, CNN previously reported.
The U.S. State Department approved the potential sale of 500 PAC-3 MSE interceptors, the most advanced Patriot variant currently in service and one of the few weapons capable of shooting down incoming ballistic missiles.
The purchase is not subsidized or financed by the U.S.; Ukraine is covering the estimated $2.1 billion cost with funds from Canada, Germany and Norway in addition to a loan from the European Union, according to the State Department.
The approval comes as Ukraine's air defenses face sustained pressure from Russian missile and drone attacks.
