The Carolina Panthers fired defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero on Friday, October 30, less than half a day after his unit collapsed again in primetime in a 27-19 defeat at Lambeau Field.

Defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley also lost his job, and defensive line coach Todd Wash moves up to interim coordinator and will call defensive plays.

Evero became the first NFL coordinator cut this season, according to the Associated Press, and the firing is head coach Dave Canales's first major staff change since he took over in 2024.

Through seven games, Evero's defense ranked 30th against the run and gave up 27.6 points per contest, per ESPN, and Green Bay piled up 354 net yards and four touchdowns on Thursday night.

The Panthers now turn to Wash to steady a defense that has been the team's weakest link all season.
