70,000 POLICE ON THE STREETS AS FRANCE BRACES FOR HALLOWEEN UNREST
France deployed a 70,000-strong police presence on Saturday for the latest nationwide protests over living costs and public services — two weeks after riots and looting caught security forces off guard.

France deployed a 70,000-strong police presence to contain a widely expected bout of fresh unrest on Saturday, in the latest nationwide protests driven by anger over living costs, public services and President Emmanuel Macron's government.
The demonstrations, falling on Halloween, came two weeks after riots and looting caught security forces off guard, leaving damaged shops, public buildings and businesses in cities across France.
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez vowed not to let a repeat happen.
France's top administrative court confirmed on Saturday that a march between the Paris squares of République and Bastille would be banned, rejecting a challenge by unions.
Some 150 gatherings were planned across France, according to the interior ministry, and the protests have inspired youth-led demonstrations planned in more than 30 German cities on Saturday.
