RAMA MEETS RAVANA: Ranbir Kapoor and Yash’s Hug Steals the Ramayana LA Premiere

LOS ANGELES — The hero and the villain shared the night’s warmest moment. At the Los Angeles premiere of “Ramayana: Rise of a Legend,” Ranbir Kapoor, who plays Rama, and Yash, who plays Ravana, greeted each other with a hug on the red carpet.
Sai Pallavi, who plays Sita, attended in a pink saree, as Hollywood influencers, media, and fans packed the David Geffen Theatre for the English version of the epic.
The premiere was a showcase for one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious undertakings: a big-screen retelling of the Ramayana, with Kapoor as its hero and Yash as its demon king, two of the industry’s biggest stars cast on opposite sides of the story.
That casting is part of what made the red carpet moment land. Rama and Ravana are not just characters in the epic — they are its moral poles, good and evil, duty and desire. Seeing the two actors who play them embrace, out of character, set the tone for a night built around the story rather than its divisions.
The Los Angeles premiere also underlined the film’s international ambitions. An English version, a Hollywood venue, and a guest list drawn from both industries signal a film aimed well beyond its home market.
The film hits theatres on November 5, when audiences will finally see whether the epic lives up to the scale of its premiere.
