A Russian drone struck a passenger train at Dnipro's main railway station in central Ukraine on Thursday morning, killing 13 people and injuring 10 others, authorities said.

People were standing on the platform boarding a commuter train when the drone hit, according to authorities, turning an ordinary morning departure into a mass-casualty attack.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strike horrific and urged that sanctions on Moscow not be eased while the war continues, framing the attack as a deliberate strike on civilians going about their day.

Dnipro, in central Ukraine, is a major railway hub, and its station has been a lifeline throughout the war — moving civilians, soldiers and supplies across the country.

Strikes on transport infrastructure have been a recurring feature of the war, but an attack on passengers boarding a train at a city station stands out for its direct toll on civilians in transit.

The casualty figures are the authorities' initial count and may be updated as rescue and medical efforts continue. For the families of those killed on the platform, the morning's departure never arrived.
